Attachment & the Parent-Child Dyad

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy was developed by Dan Hughes to address attachment issues of children who have had multiple caregivers or other attachment trauma. This approach utilizes the acronym PLACE.
P = Playful
L = Loving
A = Accepting
C = Curious
E = Empathic Since this trauma involves a relationship wound, it is best addressed in the context of the parent-child dyad. The therapist helps the child find language, meaning & emotion for his/her experience. The therapist translates this experience for the parents & helps them hold structure, while attending to the qualities of PLACE. Practicing relationship repair between parent & child is an essential component of this treatment.
